Mardi Gras, regarded as a national holiday in Louisiana, celebrates the last day of normalcy, where people come together in vivid, traditional Mardi Gras colours of purple, green and gold, dress up for eccentric parades and indulge in a variety of dishes before returning to their daily lives. Now, imagine the scene of music, conviviality, and a feast that never ends reinvented in the heart of Melbourne! And to celebrate the final and biggest weekend of the carnival, The Fig is throwing a party!

6pm – Gumbo Incident
The Gumbo Incident is a three-piece musical ensemble dedicated to creating music inspired by the sounds of New Orleans. The band play numerous hits and misses from last century along with the occasional original tune. The ensemble includes Alistair Carr on Banjo; Guitar, Mark Zerafa on Tuba, and Dario F. Ogrin on Alto Saxophone. Being an elastic band, at times the trio can grow to include other friends on a variety of instruments and vocals.
8.30pm Jackson Combo
“From Brisbane to New Orleans a Melbourne quartet of blues and jazz musicians is taking the world by storm.” Herald Sun Melbourne.
The Jackson Combo have been impressing audiences across Australia and internationally since 2013 with their Cool Blues, Swinging Grooves and New Orleans beats. They were the ‘surprise hit’ of the Devonport Jazz Festival 2017 with three full house shows. And their latest release, ‘Kool Kats’ reached top 5 on the Australian Blues Chart in 2017.
The band has also developed quite a following overseas. Especially the U.K. Entering the UK Blues chart top 20 and a nomination for ‘Best UK Blues CD 2015’ with their debut, ‘Love the Life’. A UK promo visit followed in 2016. With appearances at some of London’s iconic Blues and Jazz clubs. Followed by appearances at clubs in Edinburgh in 2017. And San Francisco and Vancouver in 2018.
