Alex Taylor

Alex moved to Melbourne in 2003 and began working with artists Wendy Rule, Mushroom Giant and The Boy Who Spoke Clouds. Alex also developed his passion for improvisation and gypsy jazz, studying for a while at VCA then branching out on his own, settling into the niche of gypsy and traditional jazz ballads from the 30s and 40s. In 2008 Alex moved to England where he formed ‘gypsy dubstep’ band INNAMORATI which over time enjoyed some success, their song ‘Clownie’ chosen for release with major dubstep label GENERATION BASS. Since moving back to Melbourne in 2020 Alex has kept himself busy learning and playing a raft of new gypsy jazz pieces, focusing on the more obscure Django classics, as well as writing his own electronic backing tracks using elements of Balkan Gypsy, Jazz, English Folk and Classical music. Alex‘s new album ‘Vampire Pumpkins & Watermelons’ is now available on Bandcamp.

Alex Taylor will play in the New Orleans room from 6.30pm
